Road Trippin'

This weekend turned out to be a very productive, very busy weekend for Paul and I.  We needed to find a new apartment in the town where Paul will soon be attending Graduate School. Along with all that excitement Paul has been applying for Assistantships, to help pay for his tuition and give him a living wage while in school.

So...we have been all over Craigslist for weeks now, and calling all these management companies, had made all these appointments to see places. In the meantime Paul got two interviews for assistantships!!! Very exciting. So we went out shopping Saturday to buy Paul some interview clothes cause Paul does not dress up. Aside from our wedding I have never seen him in anything other than jeans and a hoodie. Bright and early Sunday morning we took off out of town our first appointment was at 12:30pm. We met the apartment lady who was completely unprofessional and the longer we spent with her the more the price of the apartment seem to go up. Of course she shows us just the model place with all the up grades even though we specifically asked to see what we had know we could afford. We walked away discouraged. Then we onto the next Management company, this whole town is run by companies for apartments. I had a bad feeling about this place before I stepped in. Sure enough, we walk in the door and were told all this things we weren't looking for. Off we go again. Paul had found this one house online the night before and called the guy to see about  coming to check it out. Its a two bedroom, 1.5 baths, 12oo square feet, which is twice the size of our 1 bedroom we have now. It sounded good but who knows right? We had arranged to meet him at 4pm but we were exhausted and discouraged so we called to see if we could meet him earlier. Bingo. We pull up and check the place outside. Its old but has lots of potential. It had a nice front porch and private entrance. We walk in and its the whole top floor of this house! We look around and it has huge bedrooms, a washer and dryer which is a dream of mine not to have to drag my clothes up and downstairs and over 4 blocks. The couple that live there now, were not the neatest people, so I had trouble looking past the clutter. But it has floor to ceiling windows in all the rooms, tons of storage space, big kitchen, the sink was full of dirty dishes though so we are not sure what that looks like. You would think if you knew they were going to show your place you would straighten up a bit. You could tell the landlord who was this very nice man who owns the house and rents it out was a bit embarassed I think, he kept reassuring us that the place would be good and clean when we moved in. So then this morning we looked a few more places just to make sure it was the one for us. Next thing you know we signed our lease!!!

Then we get back to Chicago after Paul had two interviews, and found in his email that they offered him an assistantship!!! So things are looking up!!!!
