Live From Chambana It's Saturday Night!!!

Well here it is another wild and crazy Saturday Night! I use to love Saturday nights, that was the night as a teenager my parents would go out and leave me the place to myself, not that I ever did anything to overly exciting, seeing as my brother worked at the restaurant below us, along with everyone else who knew my family and would keep a watchful eye.

Then when I turned 19, the legal drinking age in Canada, things got a bit more interesting. Usually my night would start off drinking vodka cranberry out of a beer stein in my room, trying to hide it from my parents, why? I have no idea...made sense at the time. From there my friends and I would head to the Dome, where it was five bars under one roof, then when things got boring there usually around 1 am we would head over to Birdland, which was the place to be! It was one of the few cabaret bars in my city, which meant they were open to 3:30am or 4am, those were the good ol' days.

Somewhere between the age of 27 and 31 the tables turned, I really didn't go out too much, I think I burned out my liver by that point, Birdland was long gone and replaced my the Marquee which was cool but not quite the same, plus I lived out West in Calgary where to get in a bar you usually had to be blonde with collegen implanted in all sorts of places, and tip the bouncer, really a waste of time.

These days, my Saturday night are even more subdued, except tonight we decided we needed to go out and do something in the town, this weekend is the Sweet Corn Festival, here in Champaign-Urbana, we had no idea what to expect. In Chicago whenever there was a festival involving food, there would be people over the million mark, pushing and shoving their way to the food vendors and spilling their Bud Light on your sandals. Turns out this was the complete opposite, it was really nice, not to many people about 3 stages of music set up, where you actually sit and enjoy the music, and of course eat corn. Although when we first arrived I thought the festival was over, there was no one around, then I realize no, really this is it. I have to say it was some of the best corn I have ever had! Truth be known I usually don't eat at food vendors, it freaks me out, however this was an exception and one I was glad I made. Also I tried Dippin Dots! These tiny little pellets of ice cream that are freeze dried of something, they were fun to eat, however I think I would still order plain old soft serve if given the option.

Paul and I have this on going joke that no matter where we seem to go he runs into someone he knows. The last time we were in Muncie for 4 or 5 days, everyday he ran into someone who knew him from somewhere, never fails. Tonight we were waiting in line for the Corn, next thing I know Paul is waving and saying hi to someone. I am thinking no way, who in the hell could he know here? Turns out this guy with his wife who were waiting inline a few people a head of us, Paul had met him at one of their orientation seminars this past week. At least he is meeting people which is great! It was fun just walking around and of course people watching.

For posterity I had to take a picture of Paul who is from Muncie, Indiana, which is the home of a lot of sweet corn, to take a photo, I know it's corny but had to be done..lol

...or the fact that you didn't go out until 11:00!!! Now, if we do go out that's the time we are already home or just arriving!!

Yeah, I figure I did enough sewing of my wild oats druing the 18-22 years for the rest of my life!
