Last night I started the preparation, Paul and I in the kitchen getting things chopped and ready to roll for our dinner today. For the very first time I decided to make a pie, and not just buying the pie shell, I decided if I was going to do it I was going to do it from Scratch. Just as I was getting started with making the crust my Aunt called and gave me some tips on how I should go about doing it. Of course I was short some ingredients and my Aunt warned me not to substitute. Maybe I should have listened but I decided I was getting this pie done and that was it. From there I went on line looked up some recipes for substitution ideas and away I went. Here is the finished product.

This afternoon was had two turkey breasts, and a tofurky with all the trimming. Momma Butler came from Muncie Indiana to be with us today which was really exciting, her first real road trip on her own, and she had not seen our new place yet. It's a three hour drive, which is a lot when you are not use to it. Later she mentioned a few other trips she was now thinking about taking, I think she caught the travel bug. Paul's good friend Heather and her husband Ryan came with their adorable son Benjamin, who was so good. We loved having him here, he made it feel more like a family holiday. We also invited Brent and his wife Laura who Paul attends school with, and we had a great time!
The food turned out great, the final test was the pumpkin pie, which turned out very well. Momma Butler kept telling me later how she was so impressed that I had stepped out of my comfort zone. Really that's all that matters is getting the Mother in Law seal of approval. LOL..
It was a wonderful evening I am so grateful everyone came out to share this holiday with us. It truly meant a lot to me.
Cheers to another fantastic Thanksgiving, with my honourary extended Canadian Family!
