For the most part they are simple little things, for an example I have a thing about the toilet lid being up, I am sure most woman do, this drives me crazy though, for the simple reason it just looks bad! Not to mention it's very bad feung shui. All those little things that you think are normal come to find out, Marriage tends to highlight them as oddities.

Another one that I have, is taking your shoes off at the door, to me this is common sense, come to find out I think this is customary in Canada and Japan. I mentioned that we should get a boot matt for the door, and he asked what for. Paul always looks at me funny when I ask him to do this, and then actually suggested putting up a sign! Maybe it's just me, I thought everyone did this.
Since moving into our new place we actually use our kitchen table to eat dinner at, now that we have a kitchen big enough to enjoy. So the first time we sat down to eat corn on the cobb, Paul just watched me as I took a fork and knife, and cut the kernels off the cobb. He had never seen anyone do this before. Okay this is a bit different come to find out, a lot of us in my family do this one. Same with caramel apples I won't eat them cause they are too hard, I need to be able to bite into it, so I never really ate one before. Paul was surprised to hear this, then I realized I grew up in a family where my parents had false teeth so you would avoid foods that would potentially be hazardous to the dentures. It's True!!!
When Paul and I went to Halifax after we got engaged so he could meet the family, it was Easter time. The majority of my family are not overly religious, but we still enjoy traditions of the holidays, like Easter Egg hunts. Come to find out Paul had never seen or been involved with an Easter Egg Hunt before! My family is ruthless too! My Aunt Barb has hid a bunch of chocolate eggs early that Sunday morning. As soon as my cousins woke up, (Keep in mind we are all in our mid to late twenties) as we all spent the night there, it was on! Paul at first was not sure what to think, then he got into it, my two cousins Jen and Kate (sisters) were at one point wrestling over chocolate eggs! We love that stuff!
Paul's family at their Christmas Dinners never had the Christmas Crackers! The kind where you pull the center piece and it cracks you open it and inside would be some cheap toy, a really bad joke and a paper crown. I found them in a store here last year and got all excited and he had no idea what I was going on about and looked at me once again like I am an alien, which technically I guess I am, but I am legal! This year Mamma Butler is having Thanksgiving (American Style), and I am going to bust out the Crackers!

One of my favorite oddities is when I first mentioned the word toque to him, he thought I was talking about a toboggan which apparently is what toque means here. He couldn't understand why I would put a toque on my head.
I have to admit, it keeps us laughing and learning! :)

Shannon!! We could be twins!!
As Callum was born in Canada we have a lot of the same customs but also a lot different since he was brought up in a Scottish household.
Thing is, many of the examples I have found with my friends down here.
They call toques, toboggans and nobody takes their shoes off...only at our house!
By the way...I can be found doing that to my corn as well. My father always did!
