Opinions are like...

You know how the rest goes, I don't really need to finish this thought. Seriously though have you ever noticed how everyone has something to say about everything? Most of the time I welcome hearing someone's point of view, however today was not a good day for one sales lady.

I walked Paul to the train station, and decided I would just hop the bus out the the mall, with a pit stop to Borders. I love bookstores. You can find a book on any subject, and peruse it then put it back, and you get the "New Book Smell" I love the New book Smell..anyway, that and scotch tape, but I digress.

As I was checking out the new releases and the best sellers, this one book caught my eye. It was a memoir called "My Lobotomy", I have heard of this guy previously in various articles on line and such. It's about a man who was a normal child but then at the age of 12, his step mother and his father decided to pay $200.00, and let a doctor perform a "Ice Pick" lobotomy on him, when the procedure had only been done a few time. The rest of the story is about how this affected him, and how he is now 50 years old, married with kids, and has a steady job, and wants to know why this was done. Intriguing. I don't know how you chose a new book, I like to pick up a book that catches my eye, and open it to a random excerpt and read a few pages maybe a chapter, and if I get drawn in then I add the book to my reading list. I really enjoy memoirs, satires, and metaphysical types of books. So this was fitting right into my simple criteria.

I walk up to the cashier, lay my new book down on the counter, while digging out my wallet. The cashier picks up the book, thumbs through it with a confused look on her face, then follows it with a "Hmmph, Innteresting...."you know that tone like "Okay..not sure why you would want to read this." I just ignore her, lol, and she then says" I am reading this book here, you might like. It's about a woman who had cancer, and its kind of funny, and light hearted..are you interested?" She shows me the book, and it's got a bright cover, with cartoon kids and balloons. My response was" Hmph, maybe next time.." This was a first I have ever been "Up sold" at a bookstore, or was she just trying to tell me something? Oh well, I guess I won't be invited to her book club.

In the meantime I have read the first few chapters and so far this is a very compelling story. Well written considering this was the authors first book.

I can have a great time in a bookstore too!! Actually went to both B&N AND Borders yesterday...all by myself!! It was great!!

Does sound like an interesting book. The lady does not sound that different from any here!! I usually get up-sold with religious books, mainly Christian Lit! Still have yet to be sold on it!!! ;)
