Happy Canada Day/4th of July!

It is a busy weekend around this house when you have Canada Day and 4th of July to celebrate. We refrained from putting out our Canadian flag this year, as we aren't sure yet how the neighbors would perceive it. Maybe next year when we feel a bit more established.

This year though I have to say I had one of the most relaxing Canada Day's ever! The day before I went to a vineyard with Elizabeth, and for $5.00 you get to sample all 18 wines made there, and keep your glass! Sounds like a good deal to me! They give you a sort of a map so you can keep track of what wines you like and don't like and at the end of the tour purchase what you did enjoy. Pretty sweet operation! It was a lovely drive out there, so peaceful and quiet. Then you could go and explore the ruins just over the hill. It was a house built by Thomas Jefferson in the 1800's and burnt down on Christmas say during that time period. It's an amazing structure when you really step back and look at it. The next day I got up took Paul to work and decided I needed a day of no job hunting, no worries. It was Canada Day! I was off so I was going to savour this. I decided to go wash the car as it needed it desperatly and vacuum out the interior. When we drove here with Lola we had a bag packed just for her {of course} and some how her dry cat food dumped all over the trunk. We got most of it out but there was some that got down in the spare wheel well and in the crevaces so when you open the trunk on a hot day, you smell dry cat food. I know lovely. Realistically we lived in our car for the first week or two that we were here, so it really needed to be throughly cleaned. Once I got that done, it felt like brand new. So I decided to take myself out to lunch! After that I still wasn't ready to head home, so I headed to the Rappahanock River. I felt like Buddha as I sat under a large shady tree, writing in my journal. Taking in the beautiful summer day. There were kids fishing, and I was listening to them chat, while the one kid's grandfather sat under the tree on the otherside watching them and I am sure reflecting on his own childhood. There were two other men fishing just infront of me the one older and the other about my age. I was listening to them chat about "kids" today and "Twilight movies"..lol it was hilarious while they smoked cigars. The older man getting frustrated cause the lady down the wharf was getting more fish and he hadn't gotten a bite yet. It was the type of summer scene you would find in a painting really but here it was unfolding infront of me. Aside from not being in Canada, it was a great Canada Day.

Sunday was the 4th of July, and Paul and I decided to pack a picnic and take a drive see where we end up. I took him back to the vineyard where Elizabeth and I had been a few days earlier. We just walked the property this time, and drove down to another vineyard which on the outside looked like an italian castle, but on the inside was pretty boring. It's all about curb appeal! We found a nice shady picinic table there and got out our lunch. Listened to the birds, and the squirrels in waiting for us to drop a piece of bread for them. we took our time driving back home making a quick stop at a state park to get information about nearby camping, which we hope to do in the next few weeks. The good news is they camp here until December! Which I do like camping in the fall more than any other time to be honest, less bugs, cooler, and fewer people usually. What 4th of July is complete without a BBQ, and fireworks?! When we got home I whipped up some brownies while Paul lit our BBQ out back. We took advantage of our upstair neighbor not being home and made use of the backyard. Had corn on the cobb and Veggie burgers, with brownies for dessert. Just after dinner I was enjoying the A/c and I heard fireworks going off! The neighbors set off a bunch out on their driveway for their little boys. It was pretty cool.So there you have it! Happy Canada Day and 4th of July to you all!
