Pumpkin Patch Kid....

My Dad has been visiting with Paul and I this past week. I think he is having a good time, he has been walking around the town keeping busy while Paul and I have been working and schooling. Being the weekend we decided we would rent a car and take Dad around to see a bit more and do some fun things.

Last night Dad came to meet me at work and we went out and got our rental car, and then picked Paul up at home once he got in from school. It was about 6:30pm by the time we got on the road and we hit the vineyard Paul and I found last month when we were out camping. Every Friday night they have a hot dog/marsh mellow roast. By time we get there the place was packed! We decided to do the wine tasting as they had some new ones that weren't out the last time Paul and I had been there.

Everyone was was hungry but Paul and I don't do hot dogs, so we hopped in the car (of course we can't leave without buying two bottles of wine!), and someone mentions Cracker Barrel. Maybe you know Cracker Barrel, for those that don't it looks like a giant barn with an enormous gift shop in the front. I will admit the food was really good there, maybe the fact I hadn't eaten since lunch helped, who knows. We had quite the schmorgusborg, stuffed ourselves silly and then decided to check out the gift shop filled with John Deere Tracker stuff, played with all the things that made noise, then quickly left before they asked us to leave..lol.

This morning Dad snuck out at the ass crack of dawn unsupervised, while Paul and I slept, and found a bunch of yard sales. He arrived back about 9am with a few collectable die cast diesel pumps to go with his car collection. It could have been worse, he said he quit while he was ahead. We all got ready and then decided we were going to head to this orchard that makes apple donuts and have a U-pick apples and pumpkins. Today was the first day for their Pumpkin picking, to be opened. Turns out it was a lot closer than we expected, but then again, we are surrounded by corn fields so it's easy to loose track of distance.

Once we got there Dad accosted some of the people that worked there, he loves to talk to anybody and everybody, as soon as we saw the woman pull over her husband to meet Dad I knew this was going to be a long one. LOL..so Paul and I found the gift shop/ cafe called the Flying Monkey Cafe, and you could watch them making the fresh apple donuts, which we bought hot off the press. Yumm! Finally Dad catches up with us, and we decide to track down some U-Pick Apples and Pumpkins. One of the cashiers was trying to talk us into just buy the ones that were already out there. Nope, we weren't having that we were there for the full experience! We get out to the orchard and it was starting to rain, then it got progressively heavier. We took cover it lets up, and by then everyone else was scared off my a few rain drops so we were pretty much the only one in the orchard! We walked all the way back to the Pumpkin patch and half way there you could hear the thunder rolling in the background, it was coming our way, and of course I am carrying the metal Apple Picker! Dad and Paul kept telling the storm was a ways off, but I noticed they kept a safe distance from me, and my Apple Picker in case lightning struck. We had a blast! Routing through the pumpkin patch finding the perfect pumpkins, and then on our way back we picked as may apples we could for our bag, as they charge you per bag not per pound, of course Dad was sampling as Paul and I were picking. LOL...I will say they are some pretty tasty apples, and there is something to be said about picking it yourself, you have a greater appreciation for it.
From there we went to the grocery store to get some things to make dinner at home this evening, and as we were checking out the cashier, looks up at Paul and I as I was chatting to Dad about something and says; " I thought you were brother and sister!" talking about Paul and I. I felt a bit dirty after that, lol. Then she follows it up with saying to Dad, that he looked to young to have kids our age, that's when I realized she not only need new glasses, she's plum crazy! Just kidding Dad!!
