Welcome President Obama!!!!

President Obama, I like the sound of that. Today my husband's country sworn in a brand new president, and what an exciting and emotional day it was!!! I was anxious to see the American perspective on the inauguration as oppose to watching it from my own country and feeling slightly separate from the whole process. Although this time might have been different. I was glued to the t.v. in the waiting area, thinking about how I wanted to be there with the crowd in Washington, the excitement and pride of the people, banned together for the one event, to welcome in the New President, who has re-written presidential history.

During my lunch I went to the lunch room instead of coming home cause I didn't want to miss at thing. As I listened to the older ladies griping about their soaps being preempted with live coverage of President Obama's swearing in; and how they all wanted to know how old he was, and how old his children are, and what their names were, at least they were showing some interest. When I wasn't thinking about them shutting up so I could hear him, I was listening to his eloquent speech from the heart, watched his charisma, his love and adoration for his wife and children palpable, along with his love for the country. Here is a man who so far has been honest and up front about his limitations and how it will take time, and people are listening they just want to know that he is listening to them, that their voice from the poor to the wealthy, young and old, are being heard, and that they have and advocate in their corner.

Being a Canadian watching this all unfold from the beginning to the end, has sparked my interest in seeing change with the politics in Canada. If the U.S. can do it, so can Canada. The wave of change will ripple toward the north this I know. In the meantime, I rejoice in knowing that my nieces and nephews on both sides of the border, our children, can believe in their own dreams, that you can achieve whatever your heart desires with hardwork and perservierence, and they will never know a world where a black man or a woman couldn't become President or Prime Minister of their country.

I am proud to say that I am left wing, socialist! An advocate for positive change, equal rights for ALL! Welcome to the future!!!

Very nicely put!

From Washington, DC. it was incredibly moving, exciting, actually it was just plain AWESOME!

Isn't it funny, I see Canada as being a much more open nation than the US yet they have the first non-white male leader.

Either way, I'm very happy with our last minute decision to come. Years from now it will be great for Geordie to be able to say, "I was there!".
