Beating the Blahs...

So we are pushing past the middle of winter now, March is around the corner, which means spring is around the corner. Already the days are getting longer which I LOVE!

Two weeks ago the winter blahs had a good grip on me, and I was thinking Paul and I should get out of town and do something fun and different. Just as I walked in the door Paul says to me, he was thinking we needed to get away for the weekend. Great minds think alike! He got online and found some cabins that were about an hour away, and were super cheap since it was the off season, and before we knew it we were booked and ready to go! Best thing we ever did!!!

I picked up the rental car after work, Paul had our bags by the door ready to go. We made sure Lola had enough food and water, and heat to last until Sunday, the it was time to hit the road for Turkey Run Indiana.

One great thing about living in the U.S. you are not long on the road before you are in the next State, town or tourist attraction of some kind. In total it took about about an hour and half, and we were in the middle of no where, in a quiet State Park the next state over. It felt like we were thousands of miles away from anything!

It was dark when we arrived, and hard to get a feel of where we were, until the sun came up. It was absolutely beautiful! We woke up and the sun was shining, the snow sparkled, and the birds were out, and you could see hawks flying here and there.
The main lodge did an awesome breakfast buffet, then it was off to hit the trails! There must have been a good foot of snow down and there hadn't been anyone on most of them. Little did I know there were quite a few stairs through out this park, which also hadn't really been walked on in weeks and were snow covered. Those who know me, know I am not the most graceful, or agile person on two legs. Being the considerate person I am, I was going down the stairs taking my time, next thing I know I am down, sliding at lightning speed on my bum, all the way down, clearing the way for those coming behind us. All I can picture was the look on Paul's face and he turns around and see me flying towards him, and just managed to stop myself before knocking his legs out from under him.It was hilarious the first time. Yes, it happened again later on, this time it was worse, I had a hiking pole to stabilize my footing and still managed to fall. The hiking pole was the only thing that stopped me from going over the edge of the stairs, as it got hooked on something and I ended up slamming my leg into it. Needless the say the pole has a severe curve to it now..lol. As you can see from our tracks we really had no trail to follow.

After our hike we decided to take a drive, and as per usual we got lost, and couldn't figure out where we were, and nothing was open to ask for direction. We got to see a lot of the back roads of Indiana, and some interesting shacks, and I do mean shacks that people live in, not tools. Finally we made it back to the cabin and had a beautiful dinner in the lodge, and played board games and hung out by the fire. It was a great weekend escape. Now we are planning our next excursion, stay tuned for more adventures of Paul and Shannon. Paul checking out some wild tracks trying to figure out what type of animal they belonged to. I think was doing the "Butter Churner" here or shaking the snow out of pants one or the other.
