Adventures with "Flat Maya"...

Until the other day I had never heard of the book "Flat Stanley", but apparently everyone else in the world has. My sister in law called and said she needed our address to help Maya out with a project. Maya's whole school is doing a project based on the book "Flat Stanley". If you haven't heard the story before, it's about a boy who has a corkboard fall on him and gets flattened. From there he can fly like a kite or fit in the mail and visit friends where ever they are.

Maya had to draw herself and then mail herself to a friend or relative out side of their town and we had to take her on an adventure. Well Paul and I never do anything half way, so we were excited to do this for her. The other day "Flat Maya" showed up in the mail, and today we took her on a grand adventure around Champaign-Urbana.

We started by taking her for a nice walk around the park then to the play ground.

This is "Flat Maya" going down the slide.

From there we stopped by the library to see our friend Laura the Librarian and heard that Super Y was there from PBS, who we had no idea who he was, but all the kids seemed into him so we went to have "Flat Maya" take a photo with him. He was on break so we got a photo with the cut out of him instead. "Flat Maya" and Paul hanging out at the Library.

After that we thought we would take "Flat Maya" to the Orpheum Children's Museum. "Flat Maya" did some cool digital painting, and digging for dinosaurs in the sand.

We thought for sure "Flat Maya" might be getting a bit hungry, so we took her to the local gourmet cupcake place for some cupcakes and milk.

Then we hopped on the bus to Urbana to check out the Boneyard Art Festival that was going on all weekend.

While walking around downtown Urbana, we came across a group of Improvers from the Universities Theatre company doing interviews with random people on the street for their class. They stopped Paul and I to do an interview, on the side walk where there was a comfy couch set up. After they filmed us we told them about our project we were doing for Maya, and asked if they would mind helping us out.

It was long day that is for sure, but we had so much fun doing this for Maya. Tomorrow Paul is taking "Flat Maya" to his work at the University to do a few photos there, and then "Flat Maya" returns to her school on Monday. In the meantime Paul and I keep biding for the "Aunt and Uncle of the Year!" Award.

Myself, "Flat Maya", and Paul outside our house.

What a great Uncle and Aunt you are! (that's Aunt, not ANT!).

Good job you two!! I too did not know who Flat Stanley was. Question is; do they know who the Paperbag Princess is?!?!?
