Two cool cats, mountains of vanilla tuna ice caps & much more!

Whenever I am away I always keep an eye out for fun and interesting things to take back to the U.S. and give to Paul's nieces and nephews. I try to steer away from the usual t-shirts and magnets and try to find more original items. While I was in Canmore this past weekend I was on a mission to find something that everyone would enjoy. Then I came across this hidden gem!

A fun and whimsical book called Nuptse & Lhotse in NEPAL, written and illustrated by a local author in Canmore, Alberta. The story is about two cats, Nuptse (Nup-see) and Lhotse (Low-zee), who while looking for their lost marbles, discover a map to Nepal which shows two mountains named after them. From there they two cats take off on an adventure of a life time! Trekking to Mount Everest, visiting ancient temples, discovering snow capped mountains that taste like vanilla tuna ice cream. The illustrations are awesome, so vivid and colourful! You feel like you have climbed into the story with the author and watch as her imagination takes you places you've dreamed of. The cover caught my eye initially then I was thumbing through and noticed how there fun facts about Nepal, and trekking, what to take and not take when going hiking. Paul and I love being out doors and love to share these with our nieces and nephews, so this book was perfect. The author has a great bio in the back which starts off with:" Jocey Asnog was raised by a pack of wild pencil crayons in a house made of paper and stories in a land full of maple trees." I was pulled in by the imagery right there. Plus I am all about supporting and advocating for talented independent authors. So I got three copies. One for my nephew Quintin who loved looking at the pictures, he sat for most of the story but he is a very active 3 year old, who loves animals so we talked a lot about the cats. The other two for Paul's family, or maybe I will keep one for myself..lol.

This is a talent that needs to be shared! Check out her website www.cautiousleroy.com and order a copy for yourself or any kid or big kid you know! Support Local, and Independent Artists!!!!! Be pleasantly surprised by what you might discover!!! Another great site for finding new and independent books such as Nuptse and Lhotse in Nepal and much more. www.authorsbookshop.com

P.S. 5% of sales goes to various Non-Profit organizations in Nepal which support things like education programs and porter protection programs, as well as prevention of exploitation.
