TIme to catch up! With the summer months approaching and the weather being beautiful lately, we have been busy enjoying it! Last weekend was a long weekend here, and Mama Butler finally closed on her first home, so we drove to Indiana to help her set up in her new nest. Really cute place, perfect for her. It's on a quiet street, with lots of trees, and families around. Gorgeous back yard. We got her all unpacked and did a few minor fix it things for her around the place. It was great to see her so happy, as she puttered around her own home, giggling and singing, so excited to be in HER house.
From there it has been a very busy short week. Paul and a few other families from school organized a yard sale this weekend at our house. We live on a very busy street right off the interstate, so we have prime location. We really weren't sure what we would sell, so we started going through things, and finding stuff that you were okay with parting with, or if it didn't sell you would keep type thing. Well come to find out it's really hard to watch strangers go through your things, and toss them aside. Or just come browse and walk away, or say they think it's worth less than what you have marked. I had this doll that was given to me by my grandmother when I collected porcelin dolls, then my Mum was really into collecting them so they really were hers. I decided it was time to try and part with it. I am not into dolls, they creep me out a bit to be honest, it goes along with my fear of marianettes. Anyway there was a lady looking at the doll as she stood on her stand at attention, and I got a bit sad. I started having second thoughts. Was I doing the right thing? Then she walked away, and left the doll. Part of me was relieved then part of me was like " What my doll isn't good enough for you?" Paul looks over at me and says "It's strange having people look through your stuff and then when they don't buy it, it's like they are rejecting you!" He hit the nail on the head!
But then again that stuff represents a part of you that you no longer need, or moved on from, and are ready to embrace the new. Once people started coming and getting really into what we had for sale, we started to feel like a weight was being lifted. After all was said and done we made a nice little profit and what was left over we managed to fit into one little box, and store away for next years yard sale. In the end it was a very cathartic experience and a great lesson in, letting go, of not only your stuff, but dealing with emotions we project on to "stuff", and facing them head on.
Not only that, our office looks great, much more spacious!

Yard Sales are quite scary here. We've had one, it was to start at 8:00. People were at our door before 6:00. Actually come to think of it someone came the night before.
Most of our 'customers' did not have all of their teeth.
Oh yeah we had that too, we were just getting stuff down the stairs and people were on the porch rummaging through, taking what they wanted. The one lady ripped us off.
Then she ripped off another couple who was setting up with us. From there she raided another guys, car as he was unloading, checking out what he had. It was pretty surreal. I was more blown away by the crap people would be all excited about, like literal junk and they were all over it.
Love reading this blog, it is so Shannon
