Thought I have been long overdue for an entry. Let's see where did I leave off at. Well Canada went by in a blur but I always like to give the Motherland a nod on her birthday. So I made sure I had my Canadian flag up in the window facing the bus stop across the street, next to my giant Nova Scotia flag. Guarantee you not a single person knew what flag that was in the window, this is America! I was concerned that there might be backlash from the neighbors. My husband loves that I do stuff like this, cause truth be known he will be more Canadian than I will be when we move back someday. Before we knew it, it was the 4th of July and we took a great road trip to Muncie. Got to have some quality time with the in-laws, heard more fireworks than I ever heard in my life. It brought fond memories of our old neighborhood in Chicago at Cinco de Mayo. It was killing Paul not being able to set some of his own off, so finally on the 5th we found a fireworks store and of course everything was 50% off and we just HAD to go in. He was in there about 30 minutes and came out with a bag full of stuff. I couldn't believe this, this is all foreign to me. In my world, when I was a kid, we got all wrapped up in blankets and rain gear just in case and you sat in the damp grass on Citadel Hill and watched the fire works for maybe 20 minutes and call it a day! No not here. We went off to my brother-in-laws farm, and Paul was having the boys (Jacob 8, Luke 5) set them off in the driveway. They loved it and before I knew it I was channeling my beloved mother shouting from the porch "BE CAREFUL!! DON'T LOOSE ANY OF YOUR FINGERS! JACOB GET SOME SHOES ON IN CASE YOU LOOSE A TOE!!" God help my own children when they come along.
The weekend was complete with a very National Geographic Moment. We were all sitting on Brad's porch chatting when you hear one of his cows let out this fairly loud moo. To me this is out of my scope, I am such a city girl it's a shame, although I am always working at becoming more at peace with nature. I looked at Brad and said " I think one of your cows just had a calf." oh no he says not yet. Well about 15-20 minutes later he was headed back to the field to work on bailing hay and we were headed back to Momma B. driving by the cow pasture, and sure enough one of the cows had just birthed a calf maybe minutes before we rolled up. I have to say it was really humbling and so endearing to watch the Mama Cow clean the calf up, and watch as the calf tried to find his legs, as another calf born a week earlier came running over to check out the new addition. It was a very touching moment.
In other news, sadly our neighbor below us passed away recently very suddenly, and we hope is at peace now. Paul and I suspected that there was some issues there for a long time, and he would have these garage sales and the stuff would be pouring out of places he kept it stored. We could only imagine what his apartment looked like. Come to find out he was a quite the pack rat. His family came over and tried to go through it, and they had stuff endlessly coming out and set it on the lawn at the side of our house for people to pick through and take what they wanted. Honestly it looked like a junk yard out there for 4 days. One day last week, I had, had a horrible day at work and I came home and noticed something didn't look right on the porch. We had a ton of veggie plants growing on our porch and herbs, and flowers, and someone came along and stole about 8 of our large potted plants!! I furious. I still am, we put signs out for whoever took them. We have a feeling it was a friend of a friend of the neighbor who thought it was his. I guess they even went as far a digging up one of his plants for the garden! I know times are tough but taking someone's plants! That have been out there for weeks! Ah well what goes around comes around.
Oh other exciting news, well in my world at least. We have finally booked and planned our trip to Graceland!!! Come on this is great stuff! I have wanted to do this for a long time, and living so close to Memphis (6 hours) it would just be wrong not to go. We are going in September, and plan on camping right next to the Mississippi River. You have to reserve a time to see Graceland, and then we are going to tour the Legendary Sun Studios, were Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash all got started. I am so excited! While there we are going to swing by the Dr. Martin Luther King jr. Monument to pay our respects, so much history in one place. Don't worry there will be plenty of cheesy tourist photos, with us in Elvis Glasses to follow!!!!

I know! They are crazy for their fireworks. We go to neighbours of my in-laws, everyone pitches in a 'couple' of bucks and they go on forever. They are even bigger than back home's. It's crazy! I always say that Canadian's would much rather spend their money on other things for these celebrations...like beer!
We would love to put out our flag here, we have them all over the house. Unfortunately when we first moved here someone threw a rock at our window and the police thought that it was because we had such things up. So, everything came down and as long as we had our ontario plates on, our car was backed in. Have we discussed the fear that is in this country before?!?!?
