Comforts of home...

Sometimes when you are living away from home, you look for those little things that remind you of home just to find some comfort, a little beacon to say; "I am gonna be okay".

Today Paul and I were on our way to the bike shop to get my new basket rack installed. En route we decided to stop at this very inconspicuous shop in the middle of a parking lot, no real signage other than a tin foil, bingo dobber handmade sign that says "Cheese Sale". Come to find out it was a European Market. All sorts of fun things imported from all over the world crammed into this tiny shop, and in the very back there is a cheese counter, where you can get any kind of cheese you can imagine! It reminded me a lot of the shops you see on Coronation Street, where you drop in and everyone one knows everyone, and you can hardly turn around the shelves are so tight. Fans of the show will know what I am talking about. Those who don't, Google it, Google is your friend.

Upon browsing around I see all these products that you would find in England/Scotland and Canada. We were like kids in a candy store! Paul found some "Spotted Dick" Rice pudding, which I managed to talk him out of buying for now, given he knows how to find his way back there, I wouldn't be surprised if the "Spotted Dick" ends up at our house.

Before you know it I was cruising the imported chocolate section. Were I immediately spot a childhood favorite, particularly around the holidays. AFTER Eight's! I haven't had those in years. Of course I had to get them! Paul had never had them before, I was so excited to introduce him to this classic chocolate. Really its just a mint paddy, and it's not that exciting but when you are home sick it's the small things you find comfort in.
Paul didn't see the big deal in it either, but don't worry he didn't leave empty handed! He found some weird and wonderful stuff to try. Oh, and my baskets were successfully installed. I even took them for a spin to get groceries, you know I was excited if I was taking my second bike ride on this chilly January day!
